Blast Them Away touted for Dye Job Sprint feature
Lightly raced juvenile and two-time winner Blast Them Away has by far the most impressive record heading into the $715,000 Dye Job Sprint feature at Caymanas Park today and will not be easily beaten. Nine races are carded with first post at 1:00 pm.
The son of Proud Accolade out of Evita Villa (Forest Wild Cat) and bred by Woodsfield Farm in the USA will tack the track bent on continuing his winning form in the competitive-looking Restricted Stakes event for native-bred and imported two-year-olds.
Owned by Robert K Thomas Blast Them away, who will carry top weight of 56.0kg, will face several other accomplished imported horses in the Dye Job Sprint, including recent winners Noon It Is and Lady Foreman. The contest is the fifth race on the card and has an approximate post time of 3:00 pm.
Prepared for the races by champion and leading trainer Wayne DaCosta, Blast Them away has made just two starts since arriving both times with positive on-the-board efforts — the first he dead heated over 600 metres straight and the other he won comfortably over 1,300 metres in a smart time of 1:19.4.
The American import will break from post 10 and stable rider Shane Ellis, who piloted the son of Proud Accolade to his impressive second race victory, has given way to Jockey Dane Nelson who rode the American to a dead heat in his first race.
Ellis will now ride the first time runner Lisa Vibes, another of trainer DaCosta’s four runners in the race. The other runners include the much raced importee Evancho to be ridden by female claiming apprentice Georgina Sergeon and the inexperience native-bred, Gold Rush, with claiming apprentice Conrod Ellis in the irons.
Noon It Is, who was impressive in victory on last, will carry 53.0kg in the race and is expected to be the major threat to Blast Them Away completing his hat trick of wins.
A bay filly by Yankee Gentleman out of Noonan (Touch Gold), bred by James J Barry Jr in the USA and owned by Michros, Noon It Is will seek to continue from where she left off on November 5, when she spread-eagled a field of seven including stablemate Lady Foreman by 14 widening lengths over 1,200 metres to get off the mark from her second start.
