Blast Them Away romps Dye Job Sprint
IMPORTED colt Blast Them Away went on an afternoon stroll as he steam-rolled rivals in the $865,000 Dye Job Sprint feature by 4 1/2 lengths at Caymanas Park yesterday.
Installed the 3-5 favourite, the American import took little time to settle among his rivals while biding his time to strike.
He did so shortly after turning up the lane as it was fellow American filly and 8-5 second favourite Noon It Is who used the shortest way to enter the lane first. But this was of little avail. Jockey Dane Nelson produced Blast Them Away with a decent turn of foot and Noon It Is had no answer and was left to pick up the pieces under Omar Walker along the running rails as the American motored his way on to his third consecutive win from as many starts.
Conditioned by champion and leading trainer Wayne DaCosta, Blast Them Away ran 1,200 metres in a time of 1:12.4 in the Restricted Stakes event for native-bred and imported two-year-olds.
Noon It Is finished second, and had another seven lengths to spare on I’ve Been Chosen, who showed as a 24-1 chance under Aaron Chatrie after third past the post Ritchiehappynotion, a 6-1 bet ridden by Richard Mitchell, was later disqualified and placed out of the frame for an infringement during the running of the race.
I’m Allwright, who finished fifth, was promoted to complete the form as a 9-1 betting option ridden by leading jockey Dick Cardenas in the field of 12.
Owned by Robert K Thomas, Blast Them Away, a bay colt by Proud Accolade out of Evita Villa (Forrest Wildcat), was bred by Woodsform in the USA and earned $472,300 as the winner’s share for earnings of $1,258,100 from his three wins.
Meanwhile, Cardenas rode his 100th winner at Caymanas Park yesterday when he booted home the 5-2 chance, Uncle Donny, for trainer Anthony Nunes in the $715,000 Andrew HB Aquilar Memorial Cup secondary feature on the nine-race card.
