Yvad resumes sojourn
REMEMBERED for his 1996 hit single We Need Love, singer/songwriter Yvad returns with a newly released album entitled The Sojourner.
The album, a collaborative effort between NuBeat Entertainment and VP Records, is available in digital stores.
“Yvad started with NuBeat Entertainment Limited in 2006 and we decided we were going to do an album. Finally, we can now say it is out,” said Victor Simpson, head honcho at NuBeat Entertainment Limited. “The album is currently on iTunes and from reports, there has been brisk sales in the two weeks the album was uploaded online.”
Simpson tried to explain the album’s name.
“It’s just a journey, basically. The sojourner is a man who (how I understand it) is moving, constantly moving; and this album captured his journey basically. His journey in songs, from ’96 until now,” he said.
Producers Clive Hunt (who was responsible for Yvad’s first album — Young, Gifted And Dread — at Tuff Gong), Wayne Armond and Michael ‘Myrie’ Taylor’s talents were sought, not only to assist in capturing the singer’s unique voice, but to interpret his journey and preserve the integrity of this special reggae effort.
Sojourner also showcases Yvad’s songwriting skills, as he wrote 11 of the 13 tracks including the R&B influenced Cost of Living and the country like Castle of The Jungle.
The Sojourner is Yvad’s third album, his second effort was entitled Justice.
Yvad — whose real name is Kevin Davy and is from Spauldings, Clarendon — is now working out of Hermosa Beach, California, and has a band called the Posse.
Simpson said the album was long in coming a Yvad was busy touring.
“Yvad went off to tour with The Wailers for awhile and that kind of put the project on hold. He is no longer with The Wailers. He is on his own now with a new band. The approximately two-month-old band is just coming together now,” said Simpson.
