Duo stars in T20 warm-up
KRISHMAR Santokie and Shawn Findlay played starring roles in yesterday’s squad match as the national senior team fine-tuned preparations for the January 9-22 Caribbean Twenty20 (CT20) cricket tournament to be held in Antigua and Barbados.
Findlay blasted three sixes and a four in an enterprising unbeaten knock of 48 to help David Bernard Jnr’s XI to a challenging 161-5 off their allotted 20 overs at Sabina Park.
Santokie, batting at number nine, blitzed the bowlers to all parts of the ground in an undefeated half-century that lifted Nikita Miller’s XI to 150-7 from 20 overs.
Scores: Bernard Jnr’s XI 161-5 (20 overs); Miller’s XI 150-7 (20 overs)
Batting first, Bernard’s XI lost opener Kenar Lewis (17), Marlon Samuels (5) and Danza Hyatt (17) before Horace Miller and Findlay pushed back the opposition bowlers with handy contributions. Horace Miller hit 33 from 27 deliveries, while Findlay faced 33 balls in his knock. Bernard Jnr chipped in with 22 from 10 balls.
Medium pacers Brenton Parchment and Santokie, as well as leg-spinners Odean Brown and Nkrumah Bonner took one wicket each.
In reply, Nikita Miller’s XI stuttered to 61-7 as leg-spinner Damion Jacobs wiped out the top order.
Santokie, more renowned for his accurate left-arm swing bowling, played a cavalier innings of 59 off 31 balls, including five sixes and four boundaries.
He shared in an unbroken eighth wicket stand of 89 with Nikita Miller, who made 23 off 19 balls.
Jacobs, who is a reserve squad member, snared 4-24 off four overs.
The squad continues its preparation on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week.
