King ticks off sixth goal for Birmingham City
JAMAICA international striker Marlon King netted from the edge of the penalty box low into the middle of the goal to help Birmingham City blank Blackpool 3-0 yesterday at St Andrew’s Stadium in front of a crowd of almost 20,000 in their Football League npower Championship match.
It was the 31-year-old King’s sixth goal from 18 appearances (including two assists) for the Blues this season.
Curtis Davies headed in a Chris Burke corner in first-half stoppage time before King doubled the home team’s advantage seven minutes in the second half.
Nathan Redmond, inserted in the 77th minute for Burke, picked up a Chris Wood ball on the right side and with no Blackpool defender giving him the time of day jolted in a low shot just inside the penalty area to seal the deal in the 89th minute for Birmingham.
King, who received a yellow card in the 39th minute, took five shots, two on goal, in the match yesterday. He was also offside twice and drew a foul as Birmingham City moved up to 12th place and 33 points in the 24-team Championship.
Aiming to better the 12 goals he scored for Coventry City in the 2010-11 season, King will be in action on Monday (tomorrow) against Peterborough United at London Road Stadium.
Having scored against The Posh on November 19 in the Blues home game, King will try to make it two from two appearances.
