Smith fires ‘Bay’ into LIME KO semis
DIVISION One leaders Old Harbour Bay FC are through to the semi-finals of the LIME/Happy Sutherland KO after registering a stunning 3-1 victory over Major League Club McCook Pen at Prison Oval yesterday.
Jevaughn Smith scored a brace in the second half as the unbeaten Old Harbour Bay rallied from a goal down to secure a famous win.
Ricardo Hibbert stabbed home Rohan Salmon’s right-sided cross to give the McCook Pen the lead on 23 minutes.
But Calvin Walker ensured the scores were level when he finished with aplomb with the last attack of the first half.
Both sides enter the quarter-final positioned contrastingly in their respective leagues.
McCook Pen, struggling for form, are mid-table, while their opponents are yet to taste defeat in all competitions this season.
The teams though faced each other twice in the pre-season with Old Harbour winning on both occasions.
But this was the real test and certainly again it was Old Harbour Bay that had a point to prove. And after an even first half, the boys from the fishing village surged into the ascendency.
Four minutes on the resumption Lowan Myers waltzed by two defenders on the left byline and send a low cross for the onrushing Smith to stab home from two yards.
It started a period of dominance for Old Harbour Bay, who have won all 14 games played at the Oval thus far.
Good goalkeeping by McCook Pen’s Semoury McCalla kept the scoreline down, but on 78 minutes he was all at sea as Smith powered in a header out of his reach.
Marlon Johnson, coach of Old Habour Bay, said: “We started a bit flat… but gradually we got in the game. The game plan just took a while to come into play, but we did well to fight back. We still keep our unbeaten record and we’re looking forward to the semi-final with Fraziers Whip.”
A date for the semi-finals is to be announced.
