MONTEGO BAY, St James — TOMORROW’S People will play in a national club competition for the first time, when they will represent St James in the Jamaica Football Federation’s national Knock-Out competition, later this year.

The Bickersteth-based club earned the right last week Wednesday, after thrashing Lilliput Rovers 4-0 at the UDC field to win the St James Football Association’s Captain’s Bakery and Grill Knock-Out.

Davell Cornwall scored a second-half hat-trick, as the Western Confederation Super League campaigners snapped the Division One team’s giant killing run on their way to the finals.

Tomorrow’s People joins Trelawny FA’s champions Harmony FC and Westmoreland FA’s champions, Extra Flexx, as the parish teams that will join Premier League clubs Montego Bay United, Reno FC and Village United, along with the Hanover parish champions in the national competition.

Lilliput, who had gained promotion to the Division One league at the end of last season, had beaten title holders Montego Bay United, as well as Super League clubs Fogo United and Catherine Hall on their way to last week Wednesday’s decider.

Cornwall scored in the 48th, 73rd and 85th minutes, while captain Gregory Tape — who has had Premier League experience with Wadadah and Benfica of St Ann — got the other in the 77th minute, as the Danilo Barriga-coached team booked the KO title for the first time.

Lilliput should have led 2-0 early, but were made to pay for their mistakes as Tomorrow’s People took full advantage of the let-off.

Cornwall gave Tomorrow’s People the lead three minutes into the second half, then added a second in the 73rd, when he capitalised on a goalkeeper error and score into an open goal.

Tape was also gifted a goal after a mix-up between the Lilliput goalkeeper and his defenders, while Cornwall completed his hat-trick when he scored from close range with five minutes to go.
