2012 Golden League Football Competition kicks off today
The 12th renewal of the Golden League Football Competition will kick off today at the Barbican playing field with three matches.
At 3:00 pm, Pelicans will play St George’s Old Boys, then Real Mona meet Wonders at 4:15 pm before defending champion Santos tackle Shortwood at 5:30 pm. This competition is contested by players over the age of 45 years and 12 teams will compete.
This year competition will be sponsored for the first time by Bull Investments Limited. Santos won both the league and knockout title in their first year, and will be looking to Trevor Campbell, Nyrol Prawl, Gordon Murphy, Gary Gordon, Wayne Brown and Ian Burnett, to start on a winning note.
Shortwood will rely on David Batts, Kesang ‘Kippy’ Chin, Bryon Nunes, Richard Hylton, Andrew Newton and Hundel Williams for victory.
The league continues tomorrow with three matches at the same venue. At 3:00 pm Eastern will play Packers, followed by Barbican meeting Christian Ambassadors at 4:15 pm and runners-up Kingston Commissioners playing first-time entrant Real Veterans at 5:30 pm.
