Necessary Luxury – Michael Clemetson
Senior Systems Analyst, Seprod Ltd
In a world of constant communication and entertainment, life presents itself with a few necessary luxuries. We are constantly bombarded with data from our fast on-the-go lifestyle and we do need these luxuries to keep up. For me my Digicel BlackBerry is like an extension of myself; once the data is stored in my BlackBerry I can sleep in peace and rest assured that I will be reminded of the important events I would otherwise forget. I can stay in touch with my social contacts, my e-mails, and when I am driving through the country it is my road map. It is my digital camera and stores pictures of cherished memories.
My Notebook keeps me in touch with the office. On a weekend or after work hours I can respond to users, finish a document, a presentation, write program codes as if I were at my desk and still be with my family. With the help of my Digicel wireless modem I can be on the beach and be online and remain productive.
Music is food for the soul. My treasured MP3 player, loaded with some Kenny G, soul-stirring gospel, conscious reggae and R&B keeps me relaxed and balanced.
The Bible is a great source of inspiration so it is a must; when all is lost it keeps me focused. I don’t read it as much as I should, but I like to know that it is there whenever I need to do some soul searching and to give thanks.
I am a big movie and news fan so my TV/DSS remote is a vital part of my end-of-day routine; just before I retire for the night I have to get that last minute of news or a preview of the movies that are currently running; watching a good movie at home also helps me to relax after a hectic day.
Yes, there was a time when some of these items would be considered luxuries but in today’s world we consider them necessary.
