Boys’ Town rally for share of spoils
HOSTS Boys’ Town pulled a trick out of the hat after pulling back two late goals to score a come-from-behind 2-2 draw with Sporting Central Academy at Collie Smith Drive in their Red Stripe Premier League game yesterday.
Spectators watched in stunned amazement as the hosts gave up two soft goals in the first half to Clarendon-based side.
Francois Swaby scored both goals for the visitors, striking early to put the first away in the seventh minute before returning to slip a second past the ‘Red Brigade’ goalkeeper in the 28th minute.
In a dull affair in scorching afternoon heat, Boys’ Town seemed plagued by lethargy that made creating opportunities and capitalising on them difficult, before they earned a penalty which Michael Campbell put away in the 79th minute.
The goal brought some life into the encounter, pumping energy into the Boys’ Town players and fans alike.
The home side were delivered a blow when Carlos Wright was ejected almost on the stroke of full time for violent conduct against goalkeeper Camaal Reid.
It didn’t prove a major setback, however, as Campbell managed to score the second goal moments before the final whistle.
Coach Andrew Price admitted that his team had luck on its side.
“We came out very flat, especially in the first half, but I told them all we have to do is turn around our intensity in the second half. Luck favours the brave, and I think we were very brave today.”
Sporting Central’s Vassell Reynolds was clearly disappointed with having squandered a good lead.
“I think we played a good game. We managed to get complacent, so I think we lapsed in the last five minutes. Overall it was a good game, but I think after leading 2-0 for such a long while you have to feel disappointed with the result.”
