Granville face Frome in Western Confed Super League
GRANVILLE, St James — Former champions Granville United will face Westmoreland’s Frome FC at the Sam Sharpe Teachers College grounds today as the Jamaica Football Federation’s Captain’s Bakery and Grill Western Confederation Super League continues with two games.
Granville lead Zone One with eight points, one more than Frome, whose last game was a loss at home to Wadadah, giving up two own goals in the process.
Also today, Wadadah will host Invaders of Trelawny at the UDC Field with both games set to start at 3:00 pm.
The game at Sam Sharpe Teachers College should be interesting as despite their implosion at home against Wadadah, Frome look to be one of the better teams in the zone and will give the leaders a good test.
Nyron Davis, who has two goals so far, is expected to lead the Frome attack against a Granville defence that has only given up three goals in four games. They are the only undefeated team left in the competition.
Wadadah will hope home advantage will give them the edge over the Trelawny side that has yet to score a win and has conceded eight goals in the four games played, joint highest in the competition with Jericho Rangers.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, promoted Savannah FC continued to lead Zone Two after edging the inconsistent Tomorrow’s People 2-1 at Truro.
All three goals came in a 19-minute span near the end of the game, as Omar Stewart gave the home team the lead in the 69th minute, but Davel Cornwall scored his second goal of the season, in the 78th minute to bring Tomorrow’s People level.
Nicholas Bailey, however, grabbed the winner in the 85th minute as Savannah scored their fourth win.
Jericho Rangers continued to score goals at will as they took their tally to nine in five games, but seem unable to prevent the other teams from scoring as well, as they have allowed eight goals, both league highs in a 2-2 draw with Catherine Hall FC.
Andre Barrett scored twice, in the 20th and 66th minutes, to give the visiting Catherine Hall the lead on both occasions, but saw Scian McFarlene, in the 54th minute, and Marlon Summerville, in the 88th minute, brought their team back.
Bamboo’s winning streak was snapped after two games when they were held 1-1 by last-placed Mt Pelier, taking the lead after 52 minutes through Christopher Johnson before Ricardo Collins equalised in the 80th minute.
Fogo United scored a rare win, snapping a three-game skid, edging Harmony 1-0 at Bounty Hall, thanks to an Obrien Robinson goal in the 78th minute.
