Pitter, Martin take inaugural Training Camp 5K
SHAWN Pitter and Areita Martin captured the male and female sections, respectively, of the inaugural Training Camp 5K Road Race from Manor Park on Sunday.
Pitter finished the race in a time of 16:01.16 minutes ahead of St Jago’s Roshawn Johnson (16:36.38) and Andrew Gutzmore (16:48.23).
Areita Martin won in a time of 20 minutes 57.05 seconds and topped Karlene Blagrove, 21:33.94, and national netballer Malysha Kelly (23:03.56).
MVP Track and Field Club president Bruce James won the men’s walk in a time of 30 minutes, 25 seconds ahead of Maxwell Smith in 30 minutes, 26 seconds, and Russell Porter, 32 minutes, 59 seconds.
The women’s event was won by Sheron Williams in 36 minutes, 56 seconds ahead of Shirley Davis in 37:19 and Sharon Edwards Fletcher in 37:32.
Pitter and Martin also captured the Under-40 male and female individual category prizes, while Johnson and Sunshine Girl Adean Thomas topped the Under-20 male and female categories, respectively. Gutzmore and Blagrove won the Over-40 sections.
The top school was St Jago; top corporate team Jamaica Martial Arts; Oldest male and female runners Roy Thomas and Cecille Bordato at ages 84 and 70, respectively; youngest male and female Royale Gordon and Breann Campbell, both aged 12.
