Barbican-Cavalier clash highlights Major League
Second-placed Barbican and fourth-placed Cavalier will highlight this afternoon’s eighth round of matches in the Claro/KSAFA Super League competition at Barbican field starting at 3:00 pm.
In other games, leaders Rae Town entertain Constant Spring at Breezy Castle, Mountain View travel to Cling Cling Oval to face Olympic Gardens, Santos take on August Town at Bell/Chung Oval, Duhaney Park host Greenwich Town at Baldwin Crescent and UWI play Rockfort in the bottom-of-the-table clash at UWI Bowl. All matches start at 3:00 pm.
After eight rounds, Rae Town sit at the summit with 19 points, two more than Barbican and four ahead of third placed Mountain View.
Defending champions Cavalier hold fourth spot with 14 points, followed by Santos and Greenwich Town on 10 each and then Duhaney Park and Constant Spring have nine each.
Former Leaders Barbican have fallen from grace after drawing two and losing one of their last four outings.
However, the Miguel Coley-coached team is eager to rediscover their early form and to reclaim top spot, plus they will want to avenge their Jackie Bell knockout exit to the back-to-back league winners.
Cavalier, on the other hand, are having a difficult season compared to the last two years when they took the championship and set the pace from early in the competition.
At Breezy Castle, Rae Town will fancy three points at the expense of the inconsistent Constant Spring, Mountain View should also be able to get the upperhand over Olympic Gardens despite playing away at Cling Cling Oval.
Santos are having a better season than pre-season favourites, August Town, but the latter have some good players in their set-up and despite taking just seven points from their games they cannot be taken lightly.
Meanwhile, Duhaney Park and Greenwich Town will renew their long-time rivalry at Baldwin Crescent, while UWI will clash with Rockfort in a battle of the two bottom teams at UWI Bowl.
In the Major League, leaders Police National will travel to Norman Manley High school to face Maxfield in one of seven games.
In other matches, Allman/Woodford play Cooreville in the second game of a double-header at Heroes Circle, New Kingston will go up against Pembroke Hall in the first game at 1:00 pm.
Meanwhile, Meadforest take on JDF at Buttercup Park, Real Mona travel to Vauxhall to play Brown’s Town, Bull Bay oppose Swallowfield at Bull Pen and Shortwood play at home to Molynes at Shortwood Teacher’s College.
All games start at 3:00 pm.
Police lead the standings with 18 points, followed by Allman/Woodford with 17, Meadforest and Real Mona 14 each, Swallowfield 12, JDF, Maxfield and Pembroke Hall 11 each.
