Bacchanal Fridays starts with a bang
TRINIDADIAN deejay Back to Basic and Jamaica’s Bambino kept hundreds of soca lovers dancing into the wee hours of Saturday morning in the first in the series of Bacchanal Fridays.
The event was held at the spacious new Mas Camp at Stadium North in Kingston. Throughout their individual sets both DJs guided the ‘party animals’ through the hits of 2012 and some of the old favourites including a blend of dancehall songs. Some of the songs that ruled the evening were Wutliss (Kes the Band), Gyal Wuk, Vibes Ca Dun, Go Dung (Machel Montano), Keep on Wuking (Destra) and Get Outta My Way (Busy Signal).
“Soca music is embraced in all culture but it is unique to see the overwhelming response in a reggae country,” Back to Basic told those present.
The partygoers begged for more when the speaker boxes was silenced signalling an end to the event.
Earlier in the evening, new Mas Camp was given a stately opening with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony with Philip Paulwell, minister of energy, mining and ICT; Julian Robinson, minister of state in ministry; and, Damion Crawford, state minister for tourism and entertainment, along with the principals of Bacchanal Jamaica.
At the event, ATL Autohaus displayed a white 2012 Volkswagen Passat. The company will continue to highlight a new vehicle at each staging of Bacchanal Fridays.
Next week Friday’s staging will see a live performance from Trinidad’s Kes the Band.
