Coopers Pen take on All-Stars in Division One
COOPERS PEN, Trelawny — Former Major League champions Coopers Pen will open their quest for the Trelawny Football Association’s MonyMusk Overproof White Rum Division One today when they take on All-Stars Sports and Youth Club in one of three games scheduled.
Classic United will host North Star Academy at Blackwin, while Upsetters and Heatwave United will also meet at Carey Park.
The league got underway on Saturday with Fire FC scoring a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Rio Bueno at the Elliston Wakeland Centre.
Kemar Fagan scored twice for Rio Bueno, but could not hold off Fire FC who scored two quick goals late in the second half that decided the points in their favour.
Fagan scored in the fourth minute to give Rio Bueno the lead before Odean Reid replied in the ninth minute for a 1-1 half-time score.
Fagan added his second in the 62nd minute as Rio Bueno retook the lead before Oshane Johnson equalised again in the 70th minute, while Sean Matherson scored the winner a minute later.
The Trelawny FA Division One is receiving sponsorship for the first time in many years, and according to president Linnel Mclean, represents an increase in the value of the game in the parish.
The sponsorship will help the eight teams taking part to pay fees and will see an increase in the prize monies.
