PNP confident of St James sweep
MONTEGO BAY, St James — People’s National Party (PNP) chairman for North West St James Henry Mc Curdy has expressed confidence that all four of the party’s candidates contesting divisions in the constituency will be victorious in the March 6 Local Government Election.
“We will be winning all four this time around. We have some very good candidates. They have been performing very well and the people are very responsive to them,” Mc Curdy said.
He was speaking to the Observer at the North West St James Nomination Centre, shortly after the four PNP candidates contesting seats in the constituency were duly nominated.
They are: Anthony ‘Shuka’ Henry, Montego Bay Central division; Stanley ‘Bull’ Harris, Montego Bay North West; Dr Jason Anderson, Montego Bay North East and George Hamilton, Montego Bay North.
In the December 2007 local government elections the then Opposition PNP lost all the divisions in the constituency.
But Mc Curdy told the Observer that the party has learn from that “thrashing” and has put measures in place to prevent a recurrence.
All four candidates were accompanied to the Nomination Centre by a fair sized- crowd of party supporters dressed in party colours, under the watchful eyes of a small contingent of security personnel.
The Opposition Jamaica Labour Party will nominate their candidates about 12:20 pm.
