Inspired Arnett top Waterhouse again
ARNETT Gardens put on an inspired performance — one of the best from any team this season — to rally for a 2-1 victory over 10-man Waterhouse at the Tony Spaulding Complex on Monday.
Jermaine ‘Tuffy’ Anderson fired the visiting Waterhouse ahead after only 10 minutes of play. But Arnett rallied through Kemar D Brown (24th) and Kirk Ramsey (41st) to record their third win in three games against Waterhouse, but their first in eight matches.
Waterhouse went down a man 70 minutes into the match when Kemal Malcolm was ejected for foul and abusive language. Waterhouse were enduring their fourth game without a win — a string of results which has seen them slip one place to third on 44 points, two adrift of second-placed Boys’ Town and 13 off leaders Portmore.
The result left Arnett just three points off the coveted sixth spot and coach Paul ”Tegat” Davis was impressed with his charges’ display.
“This is some of the best football I’ve seen played for a long while and the spectators came out end enjoyed the two teams… but in the end we came out victorious,” he said.
Waterhouse did all the early running and nearly went ahead eight minutes into the match. However, goalkeeper Damion Hyatt went low to turn away Hughan Grey’s ferocious low strike and Hugh Howell could not put the rebound on target from seven yards.
From the resulting corner kick, however, Anderson notched his 12th goal of the season when he got ahead of William Richards and squeezed a header past Hyatt at the near post.
Minutes later, the burly striker should have added a second when he broke loose, but he cannoned his shot off the crossbar.
The home team got into their stride and forced their opponents to make some desperate clearances. With young Lamar Nelson pulling the strings in midfield with support from his fellow midfielders, Arnett found the equaliser when Brown headed home a free-kick from Nelson midway the half.
The young magician Nelson grew in confidence and influenced the game more, and Arnett’s performance grew as well.
Four minutes before the break, national invitee Rohan Reid carved his way through a crowd of Waterhouse players in midfield, then combined with Nelson before selling a cheeky dummy which sent Ramsey clear on goal.
The speedy forward settled himself and powered past Richard McCallum in goal to put Arnett 2-1 up.
