Levy in record-breaking mode at NAIA meet
JURA Levy smashed three meet records at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Indoor Track & Field Championships in Geneva, Ohio last weekend to almost lead Oklahoma Baptist University to the women’s title.
Levy clocked 7.32 seconds to clinch the 60 metres, 23.03 to run away with the 200 metres, and ran a solid third leg for the Lady Bisons to capture the 4x400m relay.
The Lady Bisons lost the title by half-a-point to Azusa Pacific University, who scored 108 points, ahead of Oklahoma Baptist University, 107.5.
In the 60m, the 21-year-old Levy broke the previous meet record of 7.37 set by Kimberly Smith of Wayland Baptist University three years ago.
Adella King of Indiana Institute of Technology was second in a time of 7.46, ahead of Bianca Grant of Wayland Baptist.
In the 200m, Levy erased the 16-year meet record of 23.50 seconds. She outsprinted Wayland Baptist’s and Grenadian Janelle Redhead, 23.11, and compatriot and schoolmate Verone Chambers, 23.80.
For the 4x400m relays, Stacy Warrior and the Jamaican trio of Nikita Tracey, Levy, and Chambers posted 3:39.83 for victory. They broke the old championship record of 3:41.18 set in 1995.
Indiana Institute of Technology was second in a time of 3:41.32 while Shorter University finished third with 3:42.30.
Elsewhere, Jody-Ann Muir of Mississippi State University ran 53.34 seconds to win the 400 metres at the Notre Dame Alex Wilson Invitational indoor in Indiana. Barbadian Sade Sealy of Illinois State University placed second timing 53.62 seconds, ahead of Diamond Richardson of Baylor University who was third in a time of 54.10 seconds.
Another Jamaican, Keisha Wallace also of Mississippi State, ran a personal best 8.23 seconds to claim the long jump at the Alabama High Tide Qualifier at the Metro CrossPlex in Alabama.
Queen Harrison won the event registering 8.07 seconds, eclipsing Michaylin Golladay, 8.18 seconds.
