Tennis Jamaica names 4 for men’s team
TENNIS Jamaica has selected four players to represent the country at the 2012 Americas Zone Three BNP Paribas Davis Cup Men’s Team Tennis competition scheduled to be held in Trinidad and Tobago from June 16-24.
The selections were made after the end of two days of gruelling trial matches held at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre, Piccadilly Road over the weekend.
Dwayne Pagon has been named the number one player in the singles with Dominic Pagon at number two, Camarsh Crumbie at three and Daniel Harris at number four.
Jamaica’s Brandon Burke, who is currently overseas, is the alternate player. Mel Spence, a former national representative, is the team’s head coach.
Meanwhile, the other players who participated in the trials were Yussuf Migoko, Atton Burrell, Macoy Malcolm and Vincenzo Ciccone. The trials were divided into two zones with the top-two advancing to the semi-finals.
The four-man playing team will begin preparation for the Americas Zone Group Three competition with the toptwo countries advancing to the Americas Zone Group Two.
In the semi-finals, Dwayne Pagom defeated Crumbie 6-1, 6-0, while Dominic Pagon also brushed aside Harris by the same identical scores, 6-1, 6-0.
Among the other countries who will be participating in the Americas Zone Group Three competition are Aruba, Bahamas, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras US Virgin Islands and host Trinidad and Tobago.
