Wakefield Primary fire won’t affect start of Summer term
WAKEFIELD, Trelawny — PRINCIPAL of Wakefield Primary School in Trelawny Neville Cunningham says the fire that damaged the institution’s library and a classroom on Sunday night, will not affect the reopening of school for the Summer term.
“The fire will not have a serious impact on school reopening next week,” Cunningham told the Observer West earlier this week.
He said the plan is to place the grade two students in the reading room and relocate the grade five students in the grade two classroom.
The fire, which had resulted in losses of $2.5 million, had destroyed the grade five classroom.
Reports from the Falmouth Fire Department are that at about 7:00 pm, fire was seen coming from a section of the school’s library. Two units, one from Montego Bay and the other from Falmouth, responded to the blaze.
Investigators are yet to determine the cause of the fire.
