Leaders Arnett, Portmore hunt U-21 win
LEAGUE leaders Arnett Gardens will be hard-pressed to maintain their two-point lead atop the JFF/PLCA Under-21 League standings this afternoon when they face third-placed Harbour View in the feature match of the 30th round at the Tony Spaulding Complex starting at 4:00 pm.
In other games, second-placed Portmore United travel to the Drewsland mini-stadium to face Waterhouse at 4:00 pm, while Tivoli Gardens entertain Sporting Central at the Edward Seaga Complex at 5:00 pm. In the 3:30 pm kick-offs, Boys’ Town host Village at Collie Smith Complex, Reno play Highgate at Frome Complex and Montego Bay United take on Humble Lion at Tucker field.
With four rounds of games to go, Arnett Gardens, the first and second round champions, sit at the summit with 65 points ahead of their main challenger, Portmore with 63.
Third-placed Harbour View are eight points off the lead with 57 points, but a win for them today against the front-runners could throw them back into the title race.
But Arnett will be wary that a loss or a draw this afternoon could see them losing their top spot, but should find comfort in the fact that they boast talented players, who have been virtually unstoppable this season — beaten only four times, once at home, in 29 matches.
Another title-chaser, Portmore, have been equally impressive with only four losses to their names as well, and with a squad as talented as theirs, a race to the wire looms.
Portmore will be banking Harbour View to deny the home team maximum points, as they will fancy getting three points against an inconsistent Waterhouse side.
Meanwhile, Tivoli who are nine points off the pace but still in with a mathematical chance, will also be hoping for dropped points among the top three to keep their slim hopes alive.
