Flamingo hop into LIME Division One final
FLAMINGO FC advanced to the LIME St Catherine Division One final after drawing 2-2 with Albion United in a controversial second leg tie for a 4-3 aggregate win at the Spanish Town Prison Oval on Saturday.
Flamingo, who also gained promotion to the LIME Major League, will meet Old Harbour Bay in the final set for next Saturday.
In a game which was controversial, entertaining, bloody and dramatic, Flamingo, who held a 2-1 advantage from the first leg, came from two goals down to secure the victory in extra time.
The game ended 2-1 in Albion’s favour in normal time and 3-3 on aggregate, forcing 20 minutes of extra time.
Tavoy Morgan gave Albion a 47th-minute lead, slotting home after Flamingo’s goalkeeper Richard Forrest and Damion Herrera collided, allowing him the easiest of tap-ins to level the tie 2-2.
In the process, Herrara was injured and later hospitalised. Moments after, both Dorian Douglas of Flamingo and Albion’s Damion McGregor had a clash of heads.
McGregor was on the ground, but when he saw blood streaming from his forehand, he sprang up and sprinted to the medics on the sidelines.
In the 75th, Romain Morris doubled Albion’s advantage, ramming home from just inside the box, making it 2-0 and 3-2 on aggregate.
Then, in a moment of controversy, Flamingo’s Delano Williams’ angled shot in the 83rd appeared to have whistled past the upright.
Referee Dave Peterkin seemed to have signalled a spot kick, but Williams wheeled away, beating his chest in celebration.
With basically no net at the side of the goal, Peterkin consulted his assistant before signalling goal, much to the annoyance and disbelief of the Albion players and fans.
That goal levelled the aggregate 3-3 and into extra time where Devon Francis slipped past his marker and fired home the winner seven minutes into the period (97th), making it 2-2 and 4-3 on aggregate.
