Suitcase baby couple remanded
THE couple who was arrested and charged after the decomposing body of their two-year-old son was found in a suitcase at their home was remanded into custody last Wednesday after failing to take up a $300,000 bail offer in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court.
Alphanso and Stephanie Warren of Chisholm Avenue in Kingston were charged with concealment of death and failure to bury the body of a child and appeared before by Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey on March 5.
Last Wednesday, when the matter was mentioned, the magistrate offered bail in same amount to the couple and scheduled the case for May 17.
According to the police, on January 15 neighbours stormed the couple’s home after concerns were raised about the whereabouts of the infant, Jeshurun. The residents reportedly found the child’s decomposing body in a suitcase and called the police, who later arrested and charged the couple.
A pathology report revealed that the boy had died from natural causes, but since then reports had surfaced out of Canada that the couple had been charged in that country for child negligence and three of their children were taken away by Canadian authorities and placed in the care of the state.
Alphanso is being represented by attorneys Chris Tavares-Finson and Courtney Foster, while Stephanie is being represented by C J Mitchell.
