Alumina exports up 3.2% in first quarter
ALUMINA export volumes increased by 3.2 per cent for the first three months of 2012, when compared to the corresponding period last year.
Preliminary data from the Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ) showed that exports of alumina leaving ports Rocky Point, which is operated by Jamalco, and Esquivel (Windalco) totalled 490,000 tonnes during the review period, compared to 475,000 tonnes during the first three months in 2011.
Windalco output was 16 per cent higher, or 153,000 tonnes up to March 2012 compared to 132,000 tonnes for the three-month period in 2011.
Jamalco’s output was down by 1.8 per cent.
