PHILADELPHIA, USA — While only a handful of Jamaican college athletes will be on show on today’s first day of the Penn Relays, a number of overseas-based Jamaicans will be parading the colours of their US colleges.

In addition to the dozens that will be scattered around the relay events there are some that will be taking part in individual events today as well.

The heats of the college women’s 4x100m and 4x400m will also be contested today with the final set for Saturday’s last day.

Former Alpha Academy athlete Claudia Calder will take part in both the 400m hurdles and high jump for Johnson C Smith University where she is coached by former Kingston College coach Lennox Graham.

Another Johnson C Smith athlete with Jamaican roots Samantha Elliot will also contest the 400m hurdles for JC Smith along with former Vere Tech runner Kaymarie Jones who is attending Adams State.

Nickeiva Wilson, who left Camperdown last year, is now at Hampton University and will contest the College women’s long jump championships for Torabu University along with Latoya Powell.

Rochelle Farquharson, formerly of St Elizabeth Technical ,will be the top seed in the College long jump where she is competing for Mississippi State.
