Allman/Woodford close in on KSAFA Major League title
ALLMAN/WOODFORD inched closer to the KSAFA Major League title on Saturday after scoring at 1-0 win over Molynes United at Molynes field.
Dwayne Williams scored the lone goal in the second half as the Central Kingston side moved to 55 points and maintained their five-point advantage over Police National, who hammered Meadforest, 10-0, at Shortwood.
At Molynes, the visitors created the better of opportunities in the first half, but were denied by good goalkeeping from Mashando Hall.
The home team’s goalkeeper thwarted clear-cut chances from Damion Williams, Gary Lewis and Miguel Graham and was the only reason the game was scoreless at the break.
Thereafter, the hosts looked to make a contest of the match, but they fell behind when Williams fired the visitors into the lead after 68 minutes — a lead they held onto for the final whistle.
At Shortwood, Police kept alive their hopes after drubbing Meadforest to keep in touch with the leaders.
Craig Gayle led the lawmen with four goals, Alwin Morgan netted a hat-trick and Fitzroy Dewar a brace, while Aaron Benjamin scored an own-goal.
Shortwood, who were scheduled to play Brown’s Town yesterday, will have a chance to rejoin Police in second place on 50 points.
In the Super League, Constant Spring will join Duhaney Park in next season’s Major League after they went down 0-1 to UWI, courtesy of a Devon Smith’s 84th-minute strike at the ‘Spring’ Complex.
In other results, Cavalier defeated Santos 1-0; Rae Town stopped Barbican 2-1; Rockfort beat Olympic Gardens 3-1; August Town edged Duhaney Park 3-2; while Mountain View and Greenwich Town drew 1-1.
Constant Spring came into Saturday’s final round second-from-bottom with 19 points, four above relegated Duhaney Park, one behind Santos, two short of Santos and three adrift of Rockfort.
