Serious about FOOTBALL

Stars of Tomorrow

NAME: Jamoy Sibblies

DOB: October 10, 1987

POSITON: Mid-field

CLUB: Frazer United

GOALS: Two; ASSISTS: 15

JAMOY Sibblies laughed his way through his interview with TEENage Stars-Of-Tomorrow, but on the other hand, the diminutive dribbler is very serious about his craft.

His team, Frazers United, having won the 2011 LIME/St Catherine football league, showcased a brand of football the parish have not seen in years.

Amassing all these accolades and admirations, the youngster spoke about being disciplined and hardworking; dreaming of seeing Frazers United in the Premier league; and the changes he wants to see in Jamaica’s football.

TEENage: How did you get involved with the sport?

Sibblies: Well, I got involved with the sport from a very young age. I was self-motivated to play, it’s a passion within me. I really love this game.

TEENage: What is your most memorable moment on the pitch?

Sibblies: Oh! That is so easy to remember. While playing for Eltham High School in 2006, I scored a magnificent goal in the semi-final at the National Stadium.

TEENage: How did you feel at that moment?

Sibblies: That goal makes me feel really excited, I will never forget that moment.

TEENage: Seeing that you are so successful in the LIME/St Catherine Football League, what stands out most in your mind?

Sibblies: (Sigh) It’s a lot, but I would have to say creating history in the league itself is an outstanding achievement. We won the leagues consecutively, first winning the Division two in 2009, the Division one in 2010/2011, then the Major league in 2012. I was also rewarded with the Most Outstanding

Player Award.

TEENage: Who is your favourite professional player? And why?

Sibblies: (Chuckled) Definitely Lionel Messi. He shows his quality over and over. He’s a compact player, very disciplined going about his craft, a great dribbler. He’s also self-motivated, and can be relied on to make the difference.

TEENage: Where do you see yourself in a couple of years?

Sibblies: Well, I see myself playing overseas, in Europe, or America, that would be a dream come through. I’m also a fan of the LA Galaxy team.

TEENage: Is there anyone who influenced your career?

Sibblies: Yeah! I have to thank the Frazers manager Wayne Gaddshaw, coach Ryan Gorden, and my mother Carlene Stephens. They are influential in my career and I’m grateful.

TEENage: What are some of the improvements you would love to see implemented in Jamaican football?

Sibblies: I would love to see better pitches, and academies opening for the youngsters. We also need a better football system. Promotions of the leagues are also important, and I must say thanks to LIME, and Digicel for their contribution to some of the leagues. We need to eradicate corruption as well.

TEENage: What would be your words for young players?

Sibblies: Get a good education, and avoid wrongdoing.
