Little Miami, MoBay Boys Club in semi-final clash
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Mid-season finalists Little Miami and Montego Bay Boys Club will meet this afternoon in the first leg of their St James Football Association’s Senior League semi-final play-off at the UDC field, starting at 3:00 pm.
Both teams, along with North Gully Ambassadors and Norwood Strikers, who played out a 1-1 draw at the UDC field in their first leg game on Monday, are seeking places in the June 3 final.
Little Miami, who lost in last season’s final to Fogo United, started the season as favourites and backed it up by beating Boys Club 2-0 in the mid-season final.
The Catherine Hall-based club topped Zone A with 22 points, five more than North Gully Ambassadors who just edged Melbourne, despite being unbeaten, and drew seven of their 10 games played.
On Monday, Norwood Strikers, who topped Zone B with 20 points, came from behind to draw 1-1 with 10-man North Gully Ambassadors.
Asorni Binger, one of North Gully Ambassadors’ top-scorers and who gave them the lead after 25 minutes, will miss next week’s return leg after he was sent off just before half-time on Monday.
Binger, who was cautioned after he removed his shirt in celebrating his goal, was given a second caution 20 minutes later when he deliberately handled a ball that was heading out of play.
He had scored after a free-kick from Hector Wright, but his path was blocked by the Norwood goalkeeper.
Norwood drew level in the 63rd minute when Hernando Hayles converted a penalty kick after substitute Roberto Cardozo was fouled in the box, minutes after going on.
The return legs of both games will be played next week and the winners of both ties will advance to the final for a place in next season’s Western Confederation Super League.
