Spanish Grain continue to roll in Business House 5-a-side football
Spanish Grain Stores defeated defending champions Peak Bottling 2-0 in the opening match of the 2012 Business House Five-A- Side Football Competition last Saturday at the NWC playing field, Mona.
The dress parade of the 64 competing teams was won by Scotiabank Group, with Lascelles Limited second and Kirk Distributors Limited placing third. Newly promoted Spanish Grain Stores continued their dominance of Peak Bottling as goals from Kimarley Simms and Roberto Fletcher ensured that they moved their unbeaten run the five-a-side competition to 22 games since entering in 2011.
Spanish Grain Store won both the Division Two and Knockout titles in 2011. They defeated Peak Bottling 4-1 in the Knockout final last year.
Carl Chang, CEO of Western Sports, was very pleased with the turnout of the teams and will give all 44 teams which participated in the dress parade two puma balls.
Kadia Wright from Peak Bottling also addressed the teams and told them that her company was very pleased to be associated with the completion since 2009. Guest Speaker Ambassador Stewart Stephenson commended the organisers for a well run league and pleaded to corporate Jamaica to come on board as this year’s competition is without a title sponsor for the first time in 13 years.
The other associated sponsors are Cable Pro Data Services, the website provider, KLAS Sports Radio and Jamaica Observer for electronic and print media.
The league will continue with eight matches today at the same venue starting at 6:30 pm.
