Bolt clocks 9.79 in Oslo to beat Powell
DOUBLE World Record holder and World and Olympic champion, Usain Bolt, extended his unbeaten streak in all races this year when he won the 100m at the Bislett Games in Oslo, Norway, earlier today, clocking a meet record 9.79 seconds to beat compatriot Asafa Powell who ran a season’s best 9.85 seconds.
Powell, who got a much better start than he did when he was second to Bolt last week in Rome, led for most of the race before Bolt caught him just before the line and passed him to cross the finish line first.
A third Jamaican, Commonwealth Games and Pan-American Championships gold medalist, Lerone Clarke, finished third in 10.10 seconds.
Bolt’s 9.79 seconds is the second fastest time this season, only behind the 9.76 seconds he ran to win in Rome a week ago while Powell’s time took him past American Justin Gatlin – 9.87 seconds — to the third place behind Yohan Blake’s 9.84 seconds set in Cayman earlier.
Bolt, who will defend his Olympic 100m title later this year, now has the three fastest times after he had run 9.82 seconds to win at the May meet in Kingston.
