Tyson Gay opens season with 10 flat win
AMERICAN sprinter Tyson Gay opened his 2012 competitive season with a 10.00 seconds clocking to win the men’s 100m B finals at the Adidas Grand Prix meet at the Icahn Stadium in New York earlier today.
Gay, the former IAAF World Championships triple gold medalist, missed all of last season to undergo his second hip operation, got to the line ahead of two Jamaicans- first year senior Kemar Bailey Cole and Jason Young both of whom were timed in 10.30 seconds.
Jamaica’s World Champion Yohan Blake is set to compete in the A final set to be run at 3:23pm Jamaica time.
Meanwhile Jamaica’s Kimberly Williams who has already made the A qualifying standard for the Olympic Games next month in London, was second in the triple jump with a best effort of 14.45m, surpassing 14.00m on all six attempts, her best meet so far this season.
The mark is her second best ever just behind the 14.52m she set last week at the IAAF Diamond League meet in Rome.

Ricardo Chambers was also second in the men’s 400m B race in 45.82 seconds behind American Jordan Boase-45.73 seconds while Allodin Fothergill was fifth in 46.40 seconds.
There was disappointment for Jason Morgan in the discus as he fouled on all three preliminary throws in his first appearance at the Diamond League meet.
Morgan went into the meet with high expectation but will have to regroup for his next meet as he prepares for the JAAA National Trials to be held in three week’s time.
Shot putter Zara Northover threw 16.01m for seventh place and is still searching for the Olympic B standard of 17.20m.
