Keen battle expected in Radix Mem Cup
A tough-looking field of $180,000 claimers, three-year-olds upward who has started for a tag of $180,000 since February and six-year-olds (NW3), will seek another winning notch in their careers in the $438,000 Dr David “Jack” Radix Memorial Cup feature at Caymanas Park today.
Twelve runners are down to take part in the annual event, with Feelingintheslips and recent winner Pasadoble having the best credentials to fight for the major share of the 1,820m run which is scheduled for approximately 4:55 pm. Ten races are carded, with first post at 1:10 pm.
Pasadoble is the most recent winner over the distance, having done so in his most recent race on May 16, but the time was pedestrian.
Nonetheless, coming from the capable stables of trainer Anthony Subratie, the chances of the four-year-old chestnut son of Tracking out of Latin Rhythm (Corsicana) and bred by Patrick Graham are still sound, even though hiked in the handicaps. Rayan Wilson will again ride.
Feelingintheslips, though not recording a victory in almost a year, will enter the contest in good racing shape.
A five-year-old bay gelding by Crucial Trial out of Habitual (Haber) and bred by Winston Kong and Patrick Rousseau, he has the best times for the trip on his three attempts for the season, the last being a second-place finish to Andy Capp on a higher tag on April 7 in a time of 2:03.3.
Three weeks earlier, running on a $180,000 tag, Feelingintheslips went down over the distance by a neck to Stock Market in 2:02.2, three parts of a length ahead of Hypocrite.
With times like these in his legs and Shane Ellis called to the saddle just after winning the Jamaica Derby aboard Type Writer, Feelingintheslips looks primed among his peers to catch the next offering for trainer Wilfred Chin and owners Uprising.
While Feelingintheslips and Pasadoble, on past achievements, have shown enough to be given a winning edge, the presence of Dandybelle showing that she’s coming to hand and jockey Kerry-Gayl Robinsin persisting with the ride; Tommy Tsunami,a disappointing import who showed on last that he will enjoy a trip such as this, and trainer Dalton Sirju has called for the capable handling of the leading rider Dane Nelson; Awesome Wildcat with Clive Lynch; Golden Powerball, claiming spprentice Jodeien Anderson; Hypocrite, the mount of Javour Simpson and Ruby D, partnered by Douglas Badaloo, can all run just as well to alter the outcome.
