Champs Manchester, Kensington in mouth-watering match-up
Title-holders Manchester CA face former winners Kensington CC at the Manchester High playfield today in a marquee match-up in the quarter-final of the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) two-day Senior Cup championship, starting at 10:00 am.
Manchester, who won the top-tier club cricket competition in 2009, 2010 and 2011 and have totaled four championships in the last six seasons, will start as favourites after topping Zone B ahead of second-placed St Catherine CC in the preliminary phase.
Kensington edged into the last eight after finishing second behind Melbourne CC in a highly competitive Zone D.
At the Alpart Sports Complex, Zone A winners St Elizabeth will face the formidable St Catherine CC outfit in another tantalising clash.
At Up Park Camp, the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), who easily dominated Zone C, will entertain Zone A runners-up Hanover CA.
Each team will have an instrumental player missing due to the ongoing Sagicor High Performance Centre (HPC) programme in Barbados. The JDF’s left-arm fastbowler Sheldon Cotterell and Hanover’s all-rounder Jermaine Blackwood both joined the second edition of the academy programme earlier this month.
In the other quarter-final match, former winners Melbourne are set to welcome Zone C runners-up St Mary CA to Derrymore Road.
In the second-tier Junior Cup competition Police SC will go up against the University of the West Indies in a semi-final decider at the Nelson Oval in Rollington Town.
In the other Junior Cup semi-final, Kingston CC host GC Foster at the Sabina Park ground.
