Discus thrower Morgan finetunes for Trials
JAMAICAN Olympian and discus record-holder Jason Morgan, who arrived in the island last Friday to sharpen his technique with his high school coach, was in his mother’s parish on Saturday relaxing with throwers at Bybrook.
Said Jason of his record throw: “Thank God for coming to Jamaica. I’m in a good frame of mind, well relaxed, well comfortable.
“The 67 metres was a real good throw for me and I’m definitely looking to forward to expand on that this year.
“Things have been connecting and training has been coming on real well. I have taken some time out to come to Jamaica a little earlier this year so I can put in some work with my high school coach Noel White to help sharpen me up and to get ready for the (National) Trials and to London,” he explained.
“London is going to be something special and I have that in mind — Jamaica’s 50th year. Something real good and something special is to be expected from Jason ‘Dads’ Morgan,” he promised.
“My main aim is to come and perform. I’m here to execute and do my job and take care of my part; compete and compete well the way I know and everything should be good for me; execute and finish the Trial healthy,” he added.
“I know God is the one who keeps me going as I know He is definitely taking me on this journey,” said Morgan, who does some coaching to finance himself.
“There are times when I see no one and He is the one who comes to my rescue and that is what keeps me going.”
He also believes assistance should be given to needy athletes, especially as “it is a bit disappointing not getting the recognition that we need to get and I have taken that on my shoulders to break down some barriers that they will see what we are doing”.
Morgan was relaxing and enjoying the cool atmosphere of the Bybrook river while having cray fish and busu soup.
He says he was enjoying the parish of his mother who passed away in 2007.
“It feels so special to me relaxing in my Mom’s place and it gives me a good frame of mind spiritually and emotionally,” he added.
