JDF on course for BH Volleyball honours
TOP seeds JDF remain on target to take the treble as their efforts to win in all three divisions met with more success in Sunday’s action of the CSports Business House Volleyball Indoor League at the UWI Gymnasium.
Their female and mixed teams both scored 2-0 wins over the NWC in their quarter-final matchups, the females winning, 21-16, 21-15, and the mixed team, 21-16, 21-18.
Guardian Life was also a quarter-final double winner, first beating Pan Caribbean, 2-1, in the female category, 21-15, 20-21, 21-19, before recording a similar 2-1 (20-21, 21-13, 21-12) win over JUTC in the mixed category.
Eleventh seed Camperdown registered the biggest shock of the day, knocking out the No 2 seed, point’s leaders and last year’s overall champions BOJ, 2-0, 21- 16, 21-20, in the mixed arena.
UWI and BOJ both posted 2-0 victories over AMECO, 21-18, 21-11, and RJR, 21-17, 21-15, respectively, in the female last eight, while JDF booked their spot in the men’s final with a 2-0 win over BOJ, 21-12, 21-14, in lastfour action.
The JDF will play No 2 seeds JCF, who earlier defeated AMECO, 2-0, in the mixed zone quarters and silenced the UWI supporters with a clinical 21-10, 21- 12 win in their semi-final match.
Tashima Fearon of BOJ and Vanessa Williams of PanCaribbean head the female qualifiers into the Skills Challenge Final with 80 points, while Shawn Matheson of the RJR Group and George Douglas of the UWI lead the male qualifiers with 115 points.
All the teams are seeking to add to their total points in the Overall Team Standings, which defending champions BOJ presently lead after the two completed competitions — the Beach Volleyball Sand Slam and the Indoor One Day Rally.
