1 UTech became a degree-granting institution which became legally empowered to conduct its affairs under a governing Council and Academic Board.
2 Louise Bennett-Coverley celebrated 50 years in Jamaican theatre. She was honoured at a special function in Canada; and the Jamaica American Caribbean Quarterly Magazine gave her a plaque for Outstanding Creativity in the Performing Arts.
3 Mallica ‘Kapo’ Reynolds – revivalist, sculptor and painter – received the Gold Musgrave Medal from the Institute of Jamaica.
