Man pleads guilty to killing sister’s ex
PORT MARIA, St Mary — A St Mary man who has pleaded guilty in the St Mary Circuit Court to a charge of manslaughter is to be sentenced tomorrow.
Terrence Brown was charged for the December 2009 murder of his sister’s ex-husband, Shawn Eccelston.
Brown pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter yesterday when the matter came up for trial in the St Mary Circuit Court.
The court was told that Brown, who was visiting his mother at Harmony Hall in Highgate, reportedly got into a fight with Eccelston after he heard loud screams coming from his sister’s house and saw Eccelston repeatedly hitting her.
Both men got into a fight, during which a knife was used to stab Eccelston, which resulted in his death. Brown was subsequently arrested and slapped with the murder charge.
Eccelston was the father of two of the sister’s children.
