‘Drifters’, bikers face off on Sunday

THE Pines Plaza in Junction, St Elizabeth, will come alive with adrenaline-filled action at the 10th staging of Slippery Wen Wett on Sunday.

Show starts at 1:00 pm.

Kingsley Scott, event promoter of Scott’s Auto, says patrons can look forward to some never before seen ‘drifting’ excitement for this year’s staging.

“This year we’re not only going to have cars drifting, we’re going to have the stunt bikers facing off as well and it’s all going to be done side by side, in tandem, and the course will be wet as usual,” Scott told Auto.

“It’s going to be freestyle, exhibition drifting so the drivers won’t be competing, just organised showboating. We’ll also at some point have the cars and bikes working the course at the same time, and the bikes will be drifting. We can guarantee that you’ll never see one thing twice,” he continued.

According to Scott, the event should see as many as three drivers tackling the obstacle course — set out with cones, tyres and directional signs — at the same time. Drivers expected to put on a show include Richard ‘Sir Rich’ Rerrie, Dennis ‘Krossbreed’ Bicarie, Cleve ‘Cutta Hype’ Ottey, Jamar ‘Sckoolaz’ Kinkead, Marcus Barnes, Randall Singh, Sanjay Singh, Roger Lewinson, and Mark Thompson. Lucky spectators will get the chance to be passengers in the cars while drivers do individual exhibition runs.

Stunt bikers expected to face off include Halquin ‘Pugu’ Rodney, Romond Gichie and Shayan ‘Shagga’ Ferguson. Patrons can also look forward to giveaways and surprises throughout the day from event sponsors LIME, Tyre Warehouse, and Red Bull. Special attractions include a mini stunt bicycle show in-between runs of the obstacle course and a Red Bull Formula 1 Racing Simulator.

Admission is $300 for children, $500 for students with ID, and $800 for adults. There will be an early bird, two-for-one special of $1,300.
