Philadelphia deejay TeFF pays homage to his Jamaican roots on his latest song, We Great. It is the title track from his recently released album and highlights the accomplishments of Jamaicans.

TeFF, who describes his sound as ‘Philly swag meets reggae’ says he makes music to entertain everyone. Since the release of his debut album TeFF: Philadelphia Certified, he has been moving up the ranks.

That album has collaborations with Bad Boy recording artiste E-Ness, Division 1’s MVP Young Chris, Gillie Da Kid, Reed Dollaz and Joey Jihad, and Chill Moody.

Born in Philadelphia to Jamaican parents, TeFF says he turned to music at age 11 to ease the pain of his parents’ divorce. He has maintained ties to his Jamaican heritage by opening shows for Beres Hammond, Stephen Marley, Beenie Man, I-Octane, Spragga Benz, Cherine Anderson and Kip Rich.

“I make music that inspires people to enjoy life, not to stress about what they do not have in life or to go out and take what belongs to someone else. Music is the voice of the world, so I compose music for both the young and the mature,” he explained.

Kunta Kunta back in spotlight

It was 13 years ago that deejay Spotlight introduced himself with the song, Sippin’ on Some Guinness, which was produced by Chester Walker.

The song was a hit with dancehall fans and picked up by brewing company Guinness for its advertising campaign. Since then, Spotlight has had a name change and is now known as Kunta Kunta, which was inspired by the Kunta Kente character in the hit mini-series, Roots.

He has been busy in the studio, recording for a number of producers including Rohan ‘Snow Cone’ Fuller, Cordell ‘Skatta’ Burrell and Troy McLean.

But for his debut album, Shine Bright, he produced all 12 tracks.

“This new name represents the struggles I have been through musically and otherwise. I’m ready to take my career to the top,” he said.

The latest single from the album is Done Chat.

Vybrant on promotional run of the UK

Singjay Vybrant who hit three years ago with the song Ears Hard, is currently in Britain promoting his latest songs, Give Us a Chance, Mi Son Sweet, Dirt Poor, Hurt Mi Heart, Okay One Day and Run Away.

Prior to leaving for Britain, Vybrant said he did a similar campaign in Kingston and St Catherine.

“We did Spanish Town Jamboree as well as a session over at Olympic Gardens, one in Waterhouse, Mountain View, Allman Town and Papine,” he told this column. “There were so many that we lost count.”

The songs were produced by Randyrich Productions, DJ Frass Productions, Young Vibes label, Rat Trap, Sajay Productions and Daseca Productions.

Squeeky Plus hunts the break

Deejay Squeeky Plus is hoping for big things with Phat like A Mud Fish, a catchy song that was produced by Stephane Moreau and recorded at the Murphlock Studios in New York City.

According to the artiste, the song is gaining momentum in the tri-state area thanks to YouTube, where a promotional video has attracted over 10,000 hits.

“Phat like A Mud Fish is getting crazy love in the New York area and it’s spreading like wild fire, it’s big in the clubs, every party you go to they are playing it,” Squeeky Plus said.

The artiste plans to shoot an official video for the song.
