THE 2012 Pines Imaging Centre/Portmore Under-17 and Collin Fagan Under-15 football competitions culminate today with a double-header at the Ferdie Neita Sports Complex in Braeton.

Portmore United FC will be in contention with Wanderers FC in the Under-17 final, while in the Under-15 category, Portmore United meet Cumberland FC at 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm, respectively.

In the semi-finals of the Under-17 contest, Portmore United hammered Christian Pen, 6-0, to take their place in the final, while Wanderers beat East Portmore Portals, 3-0, to claim the other spot.

Portmore United were at it again when they dismissed East Portmore Portals, 3-0, in the Under-15 semi-final and will face Cumberland, who had to dig deep to turn back Wanderers, 5-4 on penalties, after a 0-0 scoreline after regulation and extra time in their semi-final.

“Getting to the final is nothing new to Wanderers for the past five years; it is getting past that hurdle to reclaim the trophy that has been an issue,” Gary Reid, head coach of Cumberland FC, told the Jamaica Observer.

“Portmore United has defeated us in the preliminary stage and at other finals; however, my team is not the most talented crop of players, but they are willing and if they come out and play well, we will be able to win this one,” he said.

Participation in this Under-17 competition is mandatory for all clubs affiliated to the St Catherine Football Association in order for their teams to compete in the Premier League, Super League, Major League, Division One and two competitions.
