Binnie strolls into semis of Caribbean Champs
DEFENDING Men’s champion Chris Binnie of Jamaica strolled into the semi-finals of the Caribbean Area Squash Association’s Senior Championships with a straight sets win yesterday.
After two easy matches in the opening rounds, the quarter-finals brought Binnie head to head with Josh Pinard of hosts Trinidad and Tobago. The athletes, who had been rivals as junior players, hadn’t faced each other in over four years.
The top-ranked Binnie needed only 30 minutes to beat Pinard, 11-3, 11-4, 11-7, earning the All Jamaica Senior champion a spot in the semis in his quest for a third Caribbean title. Binnie will now do battle with Shawn Simpson of Barbados.
The 2012 Caribbean Area Squash Association’s (CASA) Senior Championships is the most prestigious event on the regional squash calendar and will run until August 26.
