THIS summer DJ Liquid, whose real name is Michael Brissett, returned to the airwaves on ZIP 103 FM after a brief suspension. The popular disc jockey and TEENage decided to have a sit-down and talk about the myriad of projects he has been working on recently.

“I was very busy despite the suspension. I was working on projects, performing as an artiste, and doing play outs all over the world, including one in Dubai,” Liquid said. “I have become more experienced with learned lessons, and have worked extensively on DJ Liquid the brand” he furthers.

One of these projects has been his popular Pre-Release Wednesdays held at the Quad. Liquid describes Pre-Release Wednesdays as a manifestation of Fresh To Death radio segment, where he premieres new dancehall songs at the event, with the crowd response being used as a judge for the material being played. He says that artistes can use Pre-Release Wednesdays as a tool to “premiere their songs before they graduate to radio”.

The popularity of Pre-Release Wednesdays has also been the reason for DJ Liquid choosing to name his latest dancehall project the Pre-Release Riddim, which includes artistes such as Mavado, Sizzla, Elephant Man, I-Octane, Demarco, Khago, and Raine Seville.

Following the Pre-Release Riddim, Liquid stated that he will be releasing a one-drop Reggae project called the Affection Riddim, which is to feature Sizzla, Busy Signal, Chuck Fendah, and more. His choice to delve into reggae production is because “All over the world, Reggae always lasts longer,” Liquid describes.

Away from the production side, Liquid will always be renowned as a premium Jamaican disc jockey, and performing in Dubai was another testimony to this.

Liquid told of us his seven-day excursion to Dubai, United Emirates with dub reggae artiste Protoje. While in Dubai, Liquid was invited by popular Middle Eastern disc jockey Danny Neville to play an hour-long set on his show on Dubai’s leading urban radio station Radio 1, and became the first disc jockey from the Caribbean to do so.

With Protoje, Liquid also performed at a music festival held on the roof of the famous Burj Al Arab Hotel.

In addition to his listed production projects, Liquid has his debut album entitled Waterworks in the making, which he is eyeing for a November 2012 release date. Waterworks will be released through his own H20 Records, and he describes the album as “not a compilation, but a story”.
