MANY may have seen the Puma campaign for gear worn by team Jamaica at the Olympics and wondered who was the beauty whose face and form stood toe to toe with the larger-than-life Usain Bolt.

Well, wonder no more as the female opposite the track star is Olympian Shevon Stoddart.

The Jamaican athlete — who has represented her country at two Olympics, primarily in the 400-metre hurdles — is taking a step into the world of entertainment, while stating that she has not given up track and field.

“I have not yet retired from track and field. I am going out this upcoming season and looking forward to the World Championship. I had such a great race at trials (this year), even though I clipped a hurdle., I am finally back and healthy. I love competing for my country and 2013 will be an exciting year on and off track,” she told the Jamaica Observer.

However, in addition to track she has always seen herself as a singer.

“I have always wanted to be a singer, but I ended up running really fast in the process, making two Olympic Games. Now, I share great passion for both music and athletics. I try to take advantage of my athletic talents because I know I can’t run forever.”

Only recently she wrote and recorded the track Go, a catchy fusion of hip hop with a distinctive dancehall beat produced by Pierre Medor. “I sing pop, R&B and reggae. I plan on releasing my first single early 2013, which will be available on iTunes as well as my first music video,” said Stoddart.

And if she could collaborate with any local act who would it be? She confesses that she really likes singjay Mavado’s style and voice and chooses him, but admits that her cousin Jah Cure is high on her list as well.

Stoddart says she really does not consider herself a model, despite having been selected as the female face of Puma’s Olympic campaign. Signed to the Osbrink Agency in Los Angeles, she admits: “I have walked the runway a few times and I must say I enjoy the experience.”
