THE Jamaica Police Federation has come out in support of Sergeant Jubert Llewellyn, the man whose ticketing of businessman Bruce Bicknell in April led to the case of corruption against former Cabinet minister Daryl Vaz and Senior Superintendent James Forbes.

The Federation, in a release yesterday, said it was concerned with how the issue was being played out in the media, which it said has been causing much anxiety to Llewellyn, is family and members of the of rank-and-file.

“The Federation is assuring its membership that the necessary support will be given to any member who carries out his/her lawful duties,” the release said.

The release comes a day after Tank-Weld CEO Bicknell, Vaz and Senior Superintendent Forbes appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on damning allegations stemming from the ticketing of Bicknell for a traffic violation and a subsequent bribery charge against him on April 9.

Vaz and Forbes, who allegedly got involved in the matter, resulting in all three men being charged and hauled before the court where they were each offered bail in the sum of $250,000 and told to return on September 5. Bicknell and Forbes have been charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice and Vaz with breaching Section 14 (2) of the Corruption Prevention Act.

As a result of the case, Vaz on Wednesday stepped down from his shadow minister post in the Opposition Jamaica Labour Party.
