Spencer reinstated
BIRMINGHAM, England — An appeal by MVP president Bruce James was upheld and Jamaica’s Kaliese Spencer was reinstated as the winner of the women’s 400m hurdles at the Aviva Birmingham Grand prix Diamond League event here at Alexander stadium.
Spencer, a two time World Championships finalist and 2012 Olympic finalist, had won the race in a stadium and meet record 53.79 but was disqualified according to IAAF rule 168.7a which says the entire body had to go over the hurdle.
She was disqualified as it was ruled that her trail leg had not completely cleared one of the hurdles.
During the appeal, however, James said there was no conclusive evidence to support the claim and she was reinstated.
Great Britain’s Perri Shakes-Drayton, who was promoted to the top position, was reverted to second place in 54.0 seconds and Zuzanna Hejnova of the Czech Republic was third in 54.14 seconds.
