Country Train used her speed and experience to beat the highly thought of Alison to land the $845,000 Terremoto Trophy by five lengths at Caymanas Park yesterday.

A Restricted Allowance II event for native-bred two-year-olds, only four competed as Music Director and then CC Coquhoun were late non-runners.

Owned and trained by Harry Parsard, Country Train ran 1,000 metres in a time of 1:00.1 built on fractions of 23.1 and 47.0 seconds.

Installed the 3-4 favourite, Country Train took up the challenge under Dick Cardenas to register her second consecutive win from three starts and gaining some measure of revenge on Alison for the defeat suffered on debut.

This time using superior pace, she led from the off and left the 9-5 second favourite Alison under Kerry-Gayl Robinson to chase. But that was all in vain as after turning for home Cardenas urged Country Train and the filly duly skittered away from her three opponents and clobbered them by a widening five lengths.

“The win was quite expected. Though small she is a nice filly who has good speed and works quite well. Not a problem at all as she follows instruction very well,” owner/trainer Parsard said afterwards.

The first-time runner El Numero Uno, a 5-2 chance ridden by leading jockey Dane Nelson, was never better than third and finished in that position another 2 1/2 lengths farther back with Amity, also well supported at odds of 3-1, completing the frame partnered by Robert Stewart.

Country Train is a dark bay filly by Image Maker out of Storm Within (Storm Creek) who was bred by Argyle Farms Ltd and earned $461,350 for earnings of $95,500 lifetime.
