Dos Santos rues PC’s denial of complex for training
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Technical director of Montego Bay United, Neider Dos Santos has blasted the St James Parish Council, operators of the Catherine Hall Sports Complex, for denying his team training access to the facility, which is their home ground.
“You see, we are the Montego Bay United and this is our first home match and it is the first I play on this pitch because the persons responsible for the pitch simply don’t care.
“We are representing the city you know! Our name is Montego Bay United, but we are been treated here like Kingston United,” Dos Santos said.
“Without us using the facility, it will be a white elephant,” he predicted.
He was speaking following his team’s 0-1 defeat against Tivoli Gardens in Sunday’s Red Stripe Premier League match at the Complex. Akeem Thenstead’s goal in the 45th minute separated the teams.
Dos Santos said he was not using the denial of the complex to justify their defeat — the second from as many starts this season. Formerly known as Seba United, the side was beaten 2-1 by Harbour View last week.
Meanwhile Tivoli, who were beaten by Arnett Gardens in their first game, welcome the rebound. Coach Glendon ‘Admiral’ Bailey praised his young players for pulling off a win on the road.
“There is a lot of inexperience in it, but what I like is the couple of senior players that we have are really putting in the work with the youngsters, encouraging them and helping them get the work done…” Bailey said.
Dos Santos rued his team’s losing effort and promised to make adjustments if the trends continues. “I’m very much disappointed. If things are not working, I have to change things,” noted the Brazilian, adding that his charges put in a much better showing than in the previous game.
