Barbican best GC Foster for Women’s KO title
BARBICAN FC emerged champions of the Sherwin Williams Colourscape Knock-out Women’s Football competition after a hard fought 3-2 extra-time win over GC Foster College in the final at the Spanish Town Prison Oval yesterday.
The scores were locked at 2-2 at the end of regulation as Barbican took the early lead with goals in the first half through Jodi Ann McGregor, who scored in the 10th and 21st minutes.
GC Foster failed to equalise despite a nicely-taken shot on goal in the 15th minute. They were, however, taking greater chances to make up for the earlier failure in defence.
Six minutes later the defence suffered again when McGregor scored Barbican’s second goal.
GC Foster pulled one back minutes into the second half through Monique Pryce in the 50th and then sprung into action late in the half to equalise through Jodeen Whyte in the 66th.
The teams were in the second half of extra-time when a controversial free-kick awarded by referee Tashana Earle saw Barbican take the advantage, with Kenisha Reid’s 102nd-minute goal.
Earlier, St Catherine blanked KSAFA, 3-0, to take the JFF Girls Under-15 title in the final. Petagaye Planter opened with a second-minute goal, while Venique Fullerton scored goals in the 28th and 40th to seal victory for the parish team.
Meanwhile, St Mary defeated Trelawny, 4-0, to secure third place.
