South Korea to host film festival
SOUTH Korea, in celebration of 50 years of diplomatic ties with Jamaica, will stage a film festival here in October.
The Korean Film Festival is scheduled for October 1-4 at the Palace Cineplex in St Andrew and October 8-9 at the Palace Multiplex in Montego Bay.
“The film festival is expected to contribute greatly to enhancing the bilateral friendship and exposing Jamaicans to the Republic of Korea’s [South Korea’s] culture,” said Ambassador Kimo Lim.
Lim, and Seong Hoon Kim, third secretary at the South Korean Embassy, paid a courtesy call to the Jamaica Observer’s Beechwood Avenue head office last Friday.
The ambassador said the occasion is fitting since both countries are celebrating their Golden Jubilees.
Lim said the festival’s first staging would be an “invitation only” event. The guest list includes government ministers, members of the diplomatic corps and entreprenuers.
“If this film festival is successful, then subsequent stagings would be extended to the public,” he said.
The festival will feature four Korean movies ranging from sports to comedy. These are: Scandal Maker; Detective K — Secret of a Virtuous Widow; Take Off and Forever the Moment.
