Spanish Town surge ahead, as Ardenne score first win
UNBEATEN Spanish Town High assumed soleleadership of Zone E in the ISSA/Digicel/Gatorade Manning Cup points standing after playing to a 1-1 draw with St Catherine High in their Spanish Town derby yesterday.
Owen Walters fired Spanish Town ahead from the penalty spot, but the unfancied St Catherine secured a point from the contest through an Adeeno Mullings goal.
After four games Spanish Town lead the standing with eight points, one more than Ascot, who defeated Trench Town 3-1, and Holy Family, who did not play yesterday.
At Ascot High School, the home team through goals from Ricardo Jackson, Daniel Strachan and Rameish McKnight saw off Trench Town 3-1.
Meanwhile, in the lone game in Zone G, Ardenne High scored their first win from four starts after a 2-1 victory over struggling Meadowbrook, who are yet to earn a point after four matches.
Charlie Smith lead this group with maximum nine points, ahead of Kingston College with six points.
The competition continues today with Wolmer’s playing Oberlin, Donald Quarrie hosting Kingston Technical and Jose Marti taking on St Andrew College in Zone F.
In Zone D, Innswood go up against Calabar, Bridgeport tackle Tivoli Gardens and Haile Selassie are at home to St Mary’s College.
Over in Zone G, St Andrew Technical oppose Kingston College and Pembroke Hall entertain Charlie Smith, while in Zone A, Penwood play Campion and group leaders Excelsior travel to Greater Portmore in search of their third win from as many games.
All matches start at 3:30 pm.
